Beauty and the Beast - anti-yaoi

In which Usagi tackles the deep and philosophical issue of Egyptian religious pr0n

Fact: Egyptian locals really love my legs.

Admittedly, said locals are all mosquitos, sand fleas, camel fleas, and other biting insects, but rest assured, they LURVE me. Really, *really* lurve me. I have their hickies all over my vulnerable, sensitive flesh. Seriously, one amorous bug decided to leave his mark on the end of my toe. WTF. At any rate, my legs are now a cheerful explosion of red blotches, and my current goal in life is either to leap into a swimming pool of aloe vera or to engage in a vigorous rubdown using an unpeeled pineapple.

Obviously, this is a great segue for temple porn and smut in Egyptian religion!

Stuff beyond the cut is so, SO nsfw, not to mention quite tasteless. ;D

Right, I'm sure I've offended all your delicate sensibilities by now. ;-) Just remember, if two people have their knees touching, they're obviously having sex. Keep this in mind as you walk through life, and I'm sure it will guide you and set you right. ;-)

Post like an Egyptian

By Osiris! What is this strange, unusual, thing I see before me?

My word! I do believe it's an actual functioning internet connection! :O I thought this was the sort of thing of myth, scrawled fondly on the walls of tombs next to hieroglyphs of routers and laptops. >.>

Yeah, I've been totally without internet access for the past two weeks, pretty much... we were in Cairo for only one day, then the net was down in Luxor, then we were on not one but TWO cruises for days on end, then an overnight train up to Cairo again... blarg. But here we can at least purchase a day's worth of internet, which is what we've done today.

I wish I could at this point say, YAY I HAZ LOTS OF REPORTS TO POST and stuff, but unfortunately... I've been remiss. ;_; I kept meaning to type up reports of what we've done so far, but I'm afraid I haven't been up to it. Egypt is way, WAY hotter than I was expecting, and that coupled with all the hiking/walking has left us all totally drained. Most of the time I just curled up in bed and read a book or played with my DS/iPod. No brilliant witty journal writing about all the temples... just me getting my "The Tudors"/Phoenix Wright groove on, I'm afraid. -_-

But I'm not gonna give up yet. :P Once I get home, I'm intending to sit down and work out a full report on all the stuff we saw and all the events, etc etc, along with YAYZ PICTOORS.

In the meantime, here's a little random blurb about a very interesting and unexpected piece of excitement/amusement in Egypt...

Collapse )

I'm flying back to Vancouver on Monday (leaving early Monday morning, arriving back in... on Monday morning, go fig >.>). I'm hoping I'll be able to make at least one more post before then... I want to talk about Egyptian temple pr0n, which is so amusing that we're still snickering about it. But then, my family and I have smutty dirty minds. ;-)

If I don't get to post before leaving, though, I'll be back soon, and hopefully with decent writeups. ^^ I've loved this trip very much, and I've been able to do things I've dreamed of my whole life, but at the same time, I'll be glad to come home and let the whole thing digest. ^^ Anyway, hope everyone's having fun one way or another, and hope my little missive helped amuse. ^^
Pride and Prejudice - murder

Posted from Amsterdam airport

9 hours in, and I already have to vent. >.>

Consider, if you will, the sardine. It spends its life free, swimming in the wide ocean and enjoying its personal space. But then, cruelly, it is jammed into a tiny metal can with about a gazillion other fellow sardines.

But I would not have you pity the sardine. Truly, they have found their way to take their poetically just revenge on humanity.

It turns out that they are all aircraft engineers/designers for KLM Airways.

Nine hours from Vancouver to Amsterdam, and every single hour of it was like some arcane Chinese torture involving the lopping off of limbs. I can no longer feel my knees. Hell, I can't feel anything below my knees, for that matter. After nine hours of being jammed against the seat in front, my knees are warped, shattered shells of their former glory. It's official, aircraft are built with midgets and amputees in mind. >:(

If that weren't bad enough, the vengeful sardines added a few subtle touches to truly enhance the suffering. The armrests didn't rise to full position, meaning you couldn't spread out onto other seats. The tilt on the seats was cunningly designed so that the person in front of you would be lying full out on your lap while yours made a slight vague tilt in a direction that might be backwards. And to cap it all off, someone ensured that the flight was booked full and there were at least five screaming babies on board.

Needless to say, I didn't sleep, and I'm not currently a happy bunny. ;_;

I'm looking forward to getting to Cairo, both for the trip itself and also for the prospect of YAY BED. We still have another 5 hour flight to go.

Thanks to everyone who posted in my last post. As my time at the net cafe is running out, I won't have time to respond, but I'll definitely be reading them to sustain me in the flight ahead.

In the meantime, I hope I at least amused you all somewhat. ;-)

Walk like an Egyptian...

Yay, I'm off again!

My bags are packed, and I'm ready to go... tomorrow evening, I'm hopping on a plane and jetting off for a three week vacation in Egypt. ^_^

It's the first leg of my parents' four month trip around the Mediterranean/Europe; they're going from Egypt on to Italy, Spain and the south of France. Unfortunately, even though I don't have any series to work on at the moment, I have to keep my schedule at least *somewhat* free, so I'm only going as far as Egypt with them. Oh darn, only Egypt, what a disappointment, eh? >.>

I'm so, so psyched about this trip. Ever since I was a kid, I was obsessed with Ancient Egypt. It's always been a dream of mine to be able to go to all the places I read about - Alexandria, the pyramids, Valley of the Kings, Karnak - and see them in person. And now not only am I going to get to do it, I'm gonna be doing it in style. ^_^ We're going on a four day cruise up the Nile as well as a 3 day cruise around the area of Abu Simbel. Couple that with 3 days in Luxor to start the trip, and 4 days in a hotel near the pyramids at the end, and it should be an amazing experience from beginning to end. =D

I'm hoping that I'll have time to write up my experiences while I'm over there... it seems my LJ is only interesting when I'm gabbing off about foreign countries (see: my two years in Japan ;D). Having said that, we only have one laptop between the three of us, so it might have to wait until I get back before I can write. :P

At any rate, hope you all have fun while I'm gone, and wish me luck! =D

Fangirl raaaage

Yeah, that's right, a WoW post. I'm sure SOME people will appreciate it. >.> It's short, at least.

Dear Blizzard,

Die in the firey depths of the Sunwell, you lore-screwing, character-twisting bastards.

That is all.

Now excuse me while I beat you to death with the corpse of Kael'thas Sunstrider's characterization, kthnx.

No love,
Eilsa the orc hunter
Kafelesefu the blood elf paladin
Apentenost the undead warlock

PS Having said that, thnx very much for the swanky badge crossbow and the amazing tankadin MagTerrace stuff. I will attempt to turn off the part of my brain that appreciates accurate characterization and well-developed plot, in favor of the part that thinks purple is a very pretty color when worn by my toons. ^^
game reviews, Yahtzee

Kingdom Smash Hearts Brawl

I HAZ NEW ICON. I thought Yahtzee would be perfect for my general video game "review" posts. If you haven't seen Yahtzee's videos yet, what are you waiting for?

So I've been playing through Super Smash Bros. Brawl a lot lately, mostly because I am one of those obsessive compulsive nits who must get every single secret character, every single level, and every single trophy in the history of ever. At the moment, this is involving playing every single level about 20 times each, which would probably suck if I hadn't discovered the joys of Special Brawl (300% light gravity fast matches with flowers on our heads. Truly, a warrior's game. XD). But in order to unlock the characters, I had to play through the epic single player mode, Kingdom Hearts.

Collapse )

But what about the game itself?

Collapse )

Really though, the main reason I'm posting is to share my Friends Code with people and hopefully get some Friends Codes in return. I haven't attempted online play yet... I keep trying to do, "With Anyone" but no one ever "shows up" to the matches. I'm hoping to be able to play with my friends, or trade some levels or stuff (do we need both friends code and the Wii codes for that?)

My friends code is 3007-7811-5804, name is Usagi. If you play Brawl, please comment with your Friends Codes and I'll add you. I'm hoping to face off against you other Brawl players soon! ^^

Music Memes!

1 "writing" meme ganked from glorious:

Give me a song (MP3 if you can) and I'll write whatever the song brings to mind.
...If you want something specific with a song, you can't exactly directly ask but you can probably cleverly guide my thinking with a well-placed icon and a well-phrased lyric. >> (EDIT: Also, might *potentially* want to narrow down the fandom a bit, seeing as a lot of my friends enjoy fandoms I know approximately sod all about. See: Bleach, FMA, Tales of Abyss, .hack, anything with a character called Haruhi. On the other hand, I'd say I'm pretty darned qualified to add Death Note to my list of writeable fandoms! =D)

1 "soundtrack" meme ganked from snowdrifts

If your life was a movie, what would the soundtrack be?

So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. No cheating!

opening credits: Pocahontas - If I Never Knew You
waking up: The Bedlam Bards - The Ballad of Joss
first day at school: Weird Al Yankovic - The Night Santa Went Crazy
falling in love: Sugar Ray - Every Morning
breaking up: Buffy The Musical - Dawn's Lament
prom: Michael Jackson - Speechless
life's okay: Weird Al Yankovic - Polkamon
college: Serenity - End Credits
mental breakdown: Showtaro Morikubo - Moon Light
flashback: Jan Arden - Insensitive
final battle: Final Fantasy - Jungle Rave Mix
death scene: Weird Al Yankovic - Polkarama!
funeral song: Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Main Theme
end credits: Michael Jackson - Stranger in Moscow
bonus track: Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug

I've done this meme before, a long time ago, and it seems like my playlist has gotten even more demented since then. Based on the soundtrack to my life, I can conclude 3 things:

1) My play list has way too much weird stuff on it (but where the hell was all my Darren Hayes stuff? ?_?).
2) My playlist has WAY too much Weird Al on it (is such a thing possible?)
3) I am going to have the most awesome death/funeral ever in the history of the universe. =D

Speaking of which, gorram it, I need to get out of the house and get me some Super Smash Bros. Brawl! XD

Movie meme!

Ganked from thesaneminority:

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

3. "I think we've all arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically. " - Pirates of the Carribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, guessed by anrixan
4. "It's not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting *ideas*, and *thinking*... " - Beauty and the Beast, guessed by retsuko
5. "Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?" - Star Wars: A New Hope, guessed by retsuko

9. "By the way, why did you kiss me?" "I don't know. I was about to be hanged. It seemed like a good idea at the time." - The Mummy, guessed by thesaneminority
10. "Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away." - Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, guessed by ozzypoos

14. "This kind of thing... it doesn't start by one person telling a story. It's more like everyone's fear just takes on a life of its own."
15. "You are generous as you are divine, oh King of Kings. Such an offer only a madman would refuse. But the idea of kneeling... you see, slaughtering all those men of yours has left a nasty cramp in my leg. So kneeling is going to be hard for me. " - 300, guessed by thesaneminority

Meme time!

I figure one of the best ways to prevent myself from slipping into total silence all over again is to actually start posting/reposting some of the memes on my flist. And so, without further ado...

(ganked from glorious)

Pick a fictional character from a fandom I know and I'll answer the following questions to the best of my abilities:

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

In other news, it looks like I might have waited too long to start my Serenity campaign, as L is now busy with tax season. Nooes. Ah well, gives me more time to fine tune plot, I guess... my own darn fault for procrastinating for so long. ;_;
Kingdom Hearts - O RLY?

Do the Anime Evolution

WOO HOO, what a weekend! That was so, SO awesome. Anime Evolution was better than I ever could have dreamed, and I had a blast from beginning to end.

I'd be hard pressed to cover the entire thing, so here in no particular order is a big list of all the best bits:

Collapse )

So overall, FANTASTIC time, can't wait to go again. Even though I didn't go to all the panels I wanted (they all seemed to be at the EXACT same times, conflicts everywhere), just walking around with all those cosplayers and happy anime fans was enough to make me smile all day. I think next year I'm going to try my hand at cosplaying too... probably something very simple like AC!Tifa. Also, next year I'm going to actually get ORGANIZED ahead of time and plan out my panels... not to mention see if I can get the Browncoats there too (hey guys, they apparently had a few Whedonverse panels!)

I'm looking forward to VCon now... less anime, sadly, but quite a lot of other fandoms to keep me happy. ^_^ Hopefully my wallet will have recovered by then.
